Karlheinz Stockhausen; Many musicians claim to have been influenced by him...but how wide was his effect?

There he was...looking all thoughtful at the back of the group of famed bodies on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and throughout the prog rock years - an perhaps even later, through punk and the camp phrase (of the early eighties) there would be at least one who was happy to tell the media that Stockhausen influenced either him - or the whole group...naturally, the conversation would swing on to other things after the bandmember was asked to name a Stocko piece off the top of his head. He died early last week, and so wonder how the rock/pop world will respect someone who apparently influenced at least half of what we supposedly listen to now?
