How old do you have to be to use a travelers check?

I am 14 and am planning on going on my cl trip this summer. My mom and I were discussing options of how I can pay for souvenirs. My mother suggested travelers checks. I am going on the cl trip without my parents and I don't want to carry too much cash with me. Can i use travelers checks?
